Here Comes The Sun

img_0341

Around December 21st each year I go outside and do my little happy dance.  (Don’t watch, I dance like a cow on skates!)

I will be wearing my winter jacket, and my breath will be visible in clouds, but I dance anyway because I am celebrating.

I am celebrating “Over the Hump” day – Winter Solstice. In Canada that day is December 21st. It could be called “Here Comes The Sun” day ♥

Now the daylight hours will begin to grow ! 🙂

What is winter solstice?

winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky.

Regardless of the snow on the driveway, and months ahead of cool mornings, I know that that every day will start to have more daylight, and less darkness.

Winter doesn’t disappear in December at all, cold days are still ahead. I may even have to shovel snow in January and February but my optimism is firm.

For a long time I can see hardly any visible difference in daylight in the mornings or evenings but in my heart I know the process of change is happening.

I can feel my optimism growing like a seed in the earth.  That optimism seed was planted in December, invisibly it grows below ground, but soon it will peek it’s head above the ground.

Then it happens! There is a more light outside when I wake up in the morning.

In the afternoon there is more light when I sit down to supper.

Spring and summer are on their way!  Here Comes The Sun   ♥

Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles

Here comes the sun (doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun (doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here

Imagine the dance we will do when the masks are folded and put away, when people can hug their friends without hesitation.

I think the Covid-19 winter is declining, there could be a few cold nights but don’t lose your optimism my friends.

I am believing we are  Over the Hump – Here Comes the Sun !

Spring and summer are coming, the seed are the ground, and soon will peek above ground.

It may still look like winter but my heart is singing anyway – David

Great comparison! Hopefully sooner rather than later, we can put away our virus necessities and start singing “here comes the sun,” and hug a friend.

Dave, I just signed in to write a post “Here Comes The Sun” and you beat me to it. LOL So, I’ll name mine the say and add “Refrain” since we are all singing the same tune. That song has been in my head for about a week.

David, you mustn’t do this to me! I nearly had a minor heart attack when I saw this snow. 🙂 🙂 For a terrible moment I thought it was current. A sunny message though, and the sun has definitely arrived where I am.

I love that you dance for Solstice. ❤ How very witchy of you! I go outside and gaze at the moon-if I can see it- I may just adopt your happy dance too. That seems like way more fun! Solstice fills my heart with hope and optimism too. Once we make to that day…I know I can make through to the melt. I love your cheerful take on my favourite holiday! ❤

  9. That’s a beautiful message. There’s so much positivity and optimism in this post. I’m glad that you’re getting more sunshine! Hopefully the war with the invisible enemy will come to an end soon, without more casualties. Take care. Stay safe.

I enjoy all four seasons but only in the summer are the lakes warm enough for swimming and even then they can be chilly. I love the challenge. Thank you Shweta for your encouragement. – David

  10. I recognize the pearl grey of an Okanagan winter. Very beautiful in its own right but I prefer when the days get longer too 🙂

I love this song. It gives hope after a long cold winter. Well actually our winter hasn’t been too bad. It is pretty cool here this morning only 41 Degrees F. We’re in Blackberry Winter. Have a great day!!!

This sounds wonderful. Where I am, we don’t have extreme weather conditions except of course humidity is a given since we are on the coastal region. We don’t have winters here unless if you consider the occasional 24 degree Celsius that happens on some days of December. Maybe because English movies and series have romanticized the winters abroad, that’s the picture I have. I go heart-eyed when I see snow. 😍

If you consider 24 degrees as winter weather then Ranjini you would be in for a shock if you visited Canada in the winter time. The weather varies across Canada of course, it’s a huge country but even here where I live where the winters are considered mild, we still have minus 15 celsius and on the farm in Saskatchewan my uncle’s farm is much colder than that. Much!

Hahaha I know I know. Which is why I said we don’t have extreme weather conditions here and I am grateful for that. The only time I have experienced winter was last December when I went on a North India trip to Uttarakhand. The temperatures were down to zero. But I have never been to any place with a minus temperature. I was supposed to this year. But now, I’m not so sure.

Winter is fun also but you have to be dressed for it. No one enjoys the minus 40s especially with a wind chill on top of it. I think I would enjoy living in a warm climate all year round but maybe I wouldn’t. All my life I’ve had four different seasons. I do love all the birds, palm trees and so on that go with the tropics and the flowers! – David Thanks for your comments !
