Internet – doublespeak for Time Machine!

I love when I am looking around on the internet and find music from a few years ago when I was young (cough, cough). Ahem…moving right along.

Remember “Guitar Man” by Bread, “Drift Away” by Dobie Gray?

So many memories, and these jaunts to the past only add fuel to the singing I do in my cubicle at work, which is half the size of solitary confinement in Sing Sing. (sorry, I digress- grin)

Some of those songs from my recent past, I just know that you know those tunes also AND when you hear them once, they never go away! (evil laugh)

Been a while since I was seventeen

When I was seventeen, I don’t think I ever had a stiff back, or sore feet.

When I was seventeen, I could eat  two A &W teen burgers back to back without a passing thought about calories or weight.

When I was seventeen, I never thought about the future, mortality, or how I survive. I was too young to worry about it, or at least it never crossed my mind.

Yes things, have changed for me, certainly my perspectives have and if I could do it all again; I wonder what I would change.

Classic but true

I remember my grandma (Baba) teaching me manners when I was just 5 or 6. She took me to a hotel in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and bought me a cola. I think it was 5 cents. I couldn’t drink it until I said thank-you. She told me, and taught me to remember my manners, always please and thank you.

Baba was right and even for the simplest things, I remember my manners.

My parents and Grandparents taught through their actions. Family was important, and actions speak louder than words.

We never ate in front of a television, my parents taught me to try new things and do it myself. I made kites from balsa wood and newspaper. I used to play “Battleship” with my Dad and I drew 10×10 tables so we could call out the grid numbers for our “bombs”.

I hope I have done some things right teaching Classics I was taught about living and respecting others so my Baba is proud.

I love this youtube video, fun, cheerful, musical and different. I don’t know either the group or song but it’s cool (and I’m ancient).

Do you love the music ?

 

Not ready to try handstands on concrete in New York but an upbeat, fun, video ~ I’d give this a ten! I think it is so cool that people make their own videos, add music and are so darn creative.  I bet you will start to jive to the music if you listen/watch it twice!

Sages In the Desert just around the corner!

Spring is here, at last, and just in time for “Sages in the Desert”

I can feel the anticipation building, and the weather heating up! 🙂 It seems long ago that the conference was announced, and NOW it is less than a month away. The time is going to melt away before it starts!

Bursting!Sages in the Desert Conference will be a weekend of Toastmaster enjoyment. Combining educational and social, sauteed with entertainment and a dash of inspiring!  Sounds like good cooking to me!

A winning event takes people like you and me, and volunteering makes the event extra special. Join in , I am getting involved as a volunteer. what color!

I love to talk about food anytime, can’t you?

Everyone seems to love this topic. So no wonder when I checked at the “Sages In the Desert” website and I saw the fine keynote speakers Rachel has planned for the conference,  my palate was tickled.

I LOVED the way Rachel (check out the link!) described the keynote speakers for the conference. The keynote speakers will be awesome, and I am looking forward to each serving of keynote speaker, every course ! !

I have a strong suspicion that everyone is going to love this menu and going to be wow’d at the conference.

Always On My Mind – Elvis or Willie?

Way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I was given my first stereo from my parents. It had two speakers and the turntable had a dome over it.  It probably looked like a biosphere off in space from a late night movie.

It came with my first album – Elvis Presley. Up until then I didn’t pay much attention to music but I have never forgotten those songs, and still remember some of them, including Always on my Mind. That was the “Separate Ways” album and I still have it.

Listen to these titles – Separate Ways, Sentimental Me, What now, What next, Where to? or I slipped, I stumbled, I fell.

Elvis recorded a lot of music and whether you like his version or Willie Nelson’s version – he was very memorable. Wham – I head for the sky!
