I occasionally visit the big coffee establishments, there are really just two in Canada and both are international. But they don’t have the warm of an independent coffee shop.
Without being negative about the “giants” I want to share my observations about an independent coffee cafe in Penticton.
If you visited my city Penticton, on my tour
I would take you to Nauti Dog Cafe which is located at the boat marina on Skaha Lake; perched beachside, a beautiful view west looking across the shimmering lake.
So, it’s a wonderful location, right?
It also has “fresh baking“, the owner Fergy is a chef in her own right, and the kitchen is right there six feet behind the espresso maker, the scent of fresh baking is amazing !!
View, delicious food of all kinds, (not frozen and reheated like the big franchises), that’s great, right?
It is and whether you sit outside or inside, the space is large, warm and friendly – I will add some of my own pictures.
Every week or so, my son and I go and just relax with Americanos, and enjoyed the view and space and appreciated the manner that Sam made us feel welcome.
So I like it, and I like it because Fergy,
has made it a special place, she is investing her time, skill, and abilities to make this a place where regulars are recognized by name; customers come to relax all seasons!
So if you mosey through the valley, swing by the Nauti Dog Cafe – and say Hi to Fergy and Sam and see and taste what you think. 🙂
By the way, my last visit I had banana bread french toast, it was yum.

Life and Random Thinking 
We have two of the larger cafe shops in Lanark as well as four smaller independent ones. Like you I prefer the independent ones. Real cups, not paper ones and freshly baked scones.

Lanark,,, like Lanarkshire? I LOVE Scotland! I lived there for five years when I was a kid. It was great.

Makes sense. I know there are lots and lots of Scots and Scots in Canada. I was watching a show last night that took place in Argyll, Manitoba. They had a parade with a pipe band and lots of local guys wearing kilts. Better than that,,, and here’s where I’m gonna give some HUGE props to the GWN, there were no indigenous people protesting the event. I love Canada (I’m sure you do, too)

We have an annual Penticton Scottish Festival and Highland games. Yes, and I hope to see more of Canada. There is a cool show on CBC and probably online called Still Standing – about small towns across Canada. Really neat.

Exactly, she makes everything and caters making cakes etc as well. It’s her place and she takes pride in it.

We have a great coffee shop in my little town, AllGood coffee. It’s owned by a guy named Eric, who followed the Grateful Dead for years. My friend Ray and I have been meeting there for coffee and talk two or three times a week for years. There’s a parade of local people all the time and a guitar hanging on the wall, so there’s live music sometimes.
In fairness, I love Starbucks coffee. I buy it for my own kitchen, but the nearest stand-alone Starbucks in Asheville is probably half an hour away. Anyway,, good post on a good subject.

That is so cool, then you can blog about it along with your own pics of the lake and some treats. Have a wonderful Christmas. So far I have stayed clear of nanaimo bars this year, but a couple before the end of year are allowed. After all they are a canadian invention and I am a patriot.

My wife and I spent a week at Shuswap Lake, BC, a few years ago. We flew into Calgary and drove on the Trans-Canada. The first thing we noticed, after my wife got over how funny my twangy southern boy talking to a Mountie experience was,, was that the airport had two Tim Horton’s locations. I’m from North Carolina, home of Krispy Kreme, so we know a little about donuts. The walnut crunch, essentially a deep fried brownie, is a whole different creature. Mostly I miss the golden (4AM) light while I,,, with my coffee and donuts fished for nothing in the quiet lake. It was one of a very small number of perfect times in my life..
