Whole Wheat Pancakes

The lack of school was one of the reasons I always loved weekends, sure, no arguement.

During the week, we got fed but on weekends we got blueberry pancakes!  Yay!

Melted butter and syrup and keep them coming!

Mom and Dad, I appreciated the cereal and porridge all those years, but the pancakes were the best! Thanks . 🙂

Not Rocket Man – Sugar Man Rodriguez

I am pleading guilty.  I don’t follow the current music at all. Oh I might mention a name here and there but mostly I am oblivious.

Skipping through the years I have caught the odd song and artist but haven’t felt like I missed much since the years in high school when I was really into music.

This week I was exposed briefly to a seventies poet, songwriter I had never heard of before – Jesus Rodriguez aka Sixto Rodriguez.  You may have have heard of him the same way I did from the  “Searching for Sugar Man movie documentary which was nominated January 13, 2013 for best documentary for the Academy awards .

The “Sugar Man was recently on Jay Leno and Sixty Minutes because of his story.

An interesting story of 70’s artist whose career never took off in the USA but he became the voice of apartheid era in South Africa. Rumored dead by suicide and now re-discovered, his music, and his story is capturing a generation that was not even born when his music was first recorded.

Grab the popcorn, and watch the award-winning documentary on Netflix,  then thank me.🐭

A great sound, I hope you like it too.

[this documentary is also from those movie makers who brought us the amazing Man On Wire documentary. ]

MICRO – A book recommendation (author Michael Crichton)

I thought it would be only fair to continue to share my thoughts about other books as I read them. I say this of course because my regular reader knows I have mentioned other authors I enjoy before.

I enjoy reading and it is one of the many traits I have inherited from my parents and that I believe will be handed down. Both of my wonderful kids are readers and when they find a jewel they share it with me.

Unintentionally I inherited one of Michael Crichton‘s latest novels – my Dad had just read it from his library so I gifted him with another book instead.

So I read it, MICRO is the title and it was an enjoyable read.  The story is about a group of students who are shrunk down to spidey size and their romps and adventures.  I don’t read horror, but a gripping and well written thriller I do enjoy. MICRO is gripping, and well written, and not gory or sadistic or anything like that.

Read it when you have time because you won’t want to put it down.

This looks so delicious, and the recipes looks easy enough even I could do it. I have yet to explore all over this blog, but will do!

3 green onions, sliced and then finely chopped
1 teaspoon sea salt

Bring the water to boil in a small pan with a tight-fitting lid.   Stir in quinoa, turn heat down to a simmer, cover and cook 15 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed.  Stir quinoa with a fork and let it cool for a few minutes.

Put the minced garlic, tahini…

Kicking Back

What is it about pictures of feet lately? On the blogs I follow, feet! FEET!, toes with flowers, feet in sandals, feet dangling off of docks.

Okay I will go along, here is picture of my toes enjoying the digital log fire, the stockings are hung by the fieplace with care, the tree is festooned. (kind of late for a Christmas picture but just in time for a picture of my perfect toes!)

Curried Carrot Soup with Toasted Pepitas | Inquiring Chef

Curried Carrot Soup with Toasted Pepitas | Inquiring Chef.

I made this soup yesterday. Even though I screwed up, by doubling the soup stock it still tastes great. I am going to add more carrots, and more hot chili pepper as this recipe has lots of flexibility. I used a red curry power, added cumin and coriander also. It’s another blustery day here and soup is a great way to warm up your insides. Oh yeah, I burnt the pumpkin seeds but still liked them. Ah but the joy of cooking yourself is still mine 🙂
