It’s been a long hard day, and I’ve been working like a dog

Have you had a long hard day? or do you just like this song and recognized it right away? Did you start to sing it and did you smile?

electricThis post  is dedicated to my lovely wife, Sue. She puts in the long days, and I appreciate it.

She likes to come home, put up her feet, grab something warm to drink, and slump down onto the floor so she can watch TV and get her neck rubbed.  I get to sit behind her and watch TV while rubbing her neck. It’s nice because she likes it, but I love it. Instead of being detached watching, I feel more whole.

Funny how in life there are moments like those that hold such meaning and we get confused about their real value. Those moments are the ones to hold on to,  and I do.

2013-08-19 20.44.21I am grateful always for those moments, and will soak up as many of them as I can because life can be sudden, and change.  The real priceless moments can be snatched away, moments like hugging your family, playing monopoly around the table, opening stockings on Christmas morning.

Have a  holiday moment today – take a priceless moment and clutch it to your heart,  especially if you can do it with someone who’s put in a long, hard, day.

Thank you for visiting!  – D

 Hard Days Night
( J. Lennon, P. McCartney )

It’s been a hard days night,
And I’ve been working like a dog,
It’s been a hard days night,
I should be sleeping like a log.
But when I get home to you
I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright.

You know I work all day
To get you money to buy you things,
And it’s worth it just to hear you say,
You’re gonna give me ev’rything.
So why on earth should I moan,
‘Cos when I get you alone,
You know I feel O.K.

When I home ev’rything seems to be right,
When I home feeling you holding me tight, tight, yeah.

It’s been a hard days night,
And I’ve been working like a dog,
It’s been a hard days night,
I should be sleeping like a log.
But when I get home to you
I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright.

So why on earth should I moan,
‘Cos when I get you alone,
You know I feel O.K.

When I home ev’rything seems to be right,
When I home feeling you holding me tight, tight, yeah.

It’s been a hard days night,
And I’ve been working like a dog,
It’s been a hard days night,
I should be sleeping like a log.
But when I get home to you
I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright.
You know I feel alright.

Contentment

Think positively, be grateful for the gifts you have, practice random acts of kindness, share smiles, enjoy quiet times.

By contentment, supreme joy is gained. Those are the words that describe Samtosha, one of the Niyamas in the Yoga Sutras. I like contentment. It means to be happy with things as they are and not look to persons, places or things outside of use to be happy. Who wouldn’t want supreme joy? And yet, the ego has a way of sneaking into our minds.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a wonderful relationship with that special someone? I would be so happy if only… My friends are going on vacation to the desert. They invited me to come along, but I have this other commitment. Maybe I should change my plans. If I don’t go now, when will I get another chance like this? We would have so much fun… I’ve always wanted a brand new Jaguar and I can’t believe my eyes. I just inherited $50,000. I’m…

Avoid the top 5 Regrets in life!

Since is a common theme or topic in my mind, I felt it relevent to reblog. What do you think? What do YOU think?

Where do you find inspiration?   I don’t have to look far as I belong to Toastmasters, and each meeting I attend brings for me inspiration, or at least education. Here is what I learned, I hope you find it thoughtful and beneficial.

Months back, my friend Greg shared at our Toastmasters 641259 meeting the research he had found on what he felt was going to be a tough topic “REGRET“.  I want to share with you what I learned that day, courtesy of Greg, and his source “ Bronnie Ware – Inspiration and Chai ”

Bronnie Ware worked in palliative care, and in the last twelve or so weeks that she spent with her patients she culled this list of insight into the TOP FIVE REGRETS. When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced…

Life life aloof

Yestflintstoneserday I drove up the valley to Kelowna.  I really notice the difference between the drivers here and in Kelowna.
In Penticton, my usual complaint about my fellow citizens is for them to stop dragging their feet and drive! I am not an aggressive driver, and my daughter would probably say I toddle since I usually drive about the speed limit. The frustration is the number of people in Penticton who drive the BELOW the speed limit EXCEPT on side streets.

stop sign I wish people would just crawl along on side streets but some people in my neighbourhood, pound on the gas pedal regardless of the number of yards to the end of the street, and the requisite semi-full stop.

In Kelowna, the drivers are all in rush, they drive along intent on riding on the bumper of the car in front of them. They drive like they are in a roller rink, swerve, pound on the gas, and then sit idling at the next light, or bumper sniffing the car ahead of them.

The fact is that this is life, and there is always going to be people around me, drivers in front of me, drivers around me that get my goat. It’s not going to bother them. I have to let it go, and relax, breathe deep and keep my sense of humor and perspective.

A Day Unplugged (How I Banned Myself from Facebook and Didn’t Die)

This is a neat idea, we are creatures of reflex it seems so we can’t stop ourselves. Like to read and never seem to have the time, hmmm where did the time go?

Taylor Yates's avatarPinstripes&Lipgloss

As I mentioned in my post about End-of-Semester Resolutions, one of the things that’s been bothering me lately has been my growing dependence on my technology. I love Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, and Bloglovin’, but sometimes enough is enough.

I had to use my computer for homework yesterday, so I downloaded this app called Self Control. It’s free for Mac and it blocks your web access to any sites you put on the “blacklist” for a period of time that you choose. With Self Control (due to a lack thereof) and my phone safely tucked away in a desk drawer, I went about my day.

12:02pm – Set Self-Control app blacklist: Facebook, my blog, and Bloglovin’. Set time for six hours.
12:07pm – Already stuck on problem one of homework.
12:08pm – Try to open Facebook as a reflex. Realize how automatic that was. Scary.
12:12pm – Again stuck on…
