Today is the day to wear green in minimum because it is St. Patrick’s day. Though my cynical heart firmly believes the average person knows less than a tinker’s cuss about who St. Patrick is.
But if you follow this Hallmark excuse for a “day” you will wear green today, and maybe your “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” tshirt. I will wear green today but no tshirt for me, and no green beer.
The “green” that most people think about every day is the kind that goes in their purses or wallets. If they buy lottery tickets maybe they dream of what they would do with a big lottery win.
I just celebrated “35” years with my beloved wife, Sue. I’ve been married longer than I was single. She was there when I on dialysis and nearly died, and we’ve shared lots of laughter, and hand-holding time over the decades.
It strikes me that what a lottery would never replace is the simple joy I get laying down with my wife around the shoulders of Sue, her head snuggled on my chest.
A lottery would never replace the joy my daughter Mandy gives me with a text, a call or a card.
A lottery would never replace of playing crib with my son, Dave and the honest joy we share in simple laughter.
No leprechaun pot of gold replaces the simple, priceless, joy of being content and counting your blessings.
But if you have a spare pot of gold, call me.
May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.– Irish Blessing
