You look great Dave, thin and health. What have you been doing to get in such great shape besides eating healthy and exercise.

Those eggs are ones my grandma created, and a few of them are eggs I made in my teens. I still her remembering her explain the symbolism of wheat. They bring back memories of Baba, her laugh, and her eyes. You never stop missing some people. (sad)

Beautiful pictures. So are those chocolate eggs that’s painted? Here in churches, I’ve heard that they get normal hard boiled eggs for Easter. The concept of Easter Eggs made of chocolates isn’t that common here. We do get it at the baker’s but only the posh and sophisticated ones. It’s like the ‘western’ concept here. Not part of the tradition.

Those are Baba’s and my eggs that are hard boiled eggs. The inside just dries out.
Baba also had a large ostrich egg that she had been given or bought and it had the last supper painted on it.
Sorry, no chocolate eggs there at all. These eggs are painted in what they call the resist method. You dip the eggs in a light color, paint a design in wax on it, then dip a gradually darker color, paint on it with wax again, repeating until you do black or you can stop earlier like I always did.

Woahh that’s a lot of work. I had to go back and look at those eggs again. Super brilliant now that I know the technique! So what do you do with them after?

I think Baba used to make a tiny hole to let the dried egg out after a few years. Mainly they are to keep as mementos. My attempts have the years on them, back in the 60’s and 70’s and they are fragile treasures. The symbols of wheat and others are hope for good crop and food in the house etc. They were a nice thing to make when it was still cold and snow on the ground at Easter in the Ukraine, and in Saskatchewan for the European immigrants.
