Thank you for visiting “Life and Random Thinking” today, and I hope you like my post today.
I was feeling grateful this morning, always a nice way to start the day. Maybe the best way
I can tie my own shoes! Truly that is something I am happy about. When my left hand was bandaged for almost six weeks I couldn’t tie my laces so I am grateful.
Gratitude is truly a nice way to start the day, and I have much to say thanks for including the cup of coffee in my Marvin the Martian mug. ♥ Mmmm
When we feel gratitude, it is healthy for us and this is actually been proven by studies (Harvard no less!).
In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

The opposite of gratitude may be entitlement which advertising seems to promote in my opinion.
Comparison is the thief of happiness.

One of the things I am grateful for is that my parents taught me to say “grace” before every meal. That simple quick moment to stop and acknowledge helps me to keep my gratitude battery charged.
I want to keep that gratitude battery charged because it affects how I respond throughout the day to minor inconveniences. It seems to take a real beating when I am behind the wheel. LOL
Speaking of “grace” – the camp song I still enjoy singing is Jonny Appleseed – the song gives thanks for the simple joys of life in a happy way: the sun, the rain, and the apple seed.

Long ago, when dinosaurs were young, I went to summer camp and we sang the Jonny Appleseed song – and this is the link to it on youtube – before meals. It was a lot of fun to join in with a hundred others to sing this song and we sang it at the table just yesterday but only the first verse. (smile)
Why not? I am still a camper at heart, after all.
I hope you feel young at heart today, and enjoy the simple joys of life all day, that you enjoy an apple and have the sense of appreciation for life that brings health to you.
Thanks for visiting – David ♥♥♥
BTW – before you go, who knows this song?
Hey, where did we go?
Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow
Playin’ a new game
Laughin’ and a-runnin’, hey, hey
Skippin’ and a-jumpin’
In the misty morning fog with
Our, our hearts a-thumping and you
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks Darcie. I certainly enjoy seeing you at our meetings, always a natural genuine smile. A gratitude journal sounds powerful. That is such a great idea. What a priceless gift to yourself in the future that you will be able to look back and read. I kept a journal for awhile, and when I looked back it reminded me of special moments like when I saw a white heron. Thank you for your comment today! – David

It’s Thanksgiving Day here in Ohio, so your post is especially meaningful and thoughtful. There’s so much to be grateful for, and one of those things is great music…and the fact that my son has discovered Van Morrison! All the best to you and yours…

I think that song is Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. I used to sing it to my baby girl who was my brown eyed girl.

Enjoyed this post and had to smile at not just the beautiful pictures, but also the scrabble letter one – after our early Thanksgiving dinner, we all played Bananagrams ( a type of scrabble game without the board)

We enjoy board games here also Susan. We must have at least 4 versions of Boardwalk LOL. We tend to play the Simpsons version the most and we play a speed game so it only takes an hour. I look forward to reading more of your posts. I found your blog on another blog which listed the blogs she follows. – Where in this wide world are you located? – David

And all this time I thought the Johnny Appleseed song belonged to the Brownie Scouts! LOL! I’m glad to know appreciation for it is worldwide. We are having Thanksgiving in the U.S. so your post is very appropriate to us. When I lived in Mexico, expats got to celebrate twice–Canadians and then those from the United States. I am grateful you can tie your shoes again. It’s one of those little things we don’t value until it’s gone!

thanks Linda, I am glad we have Canadian Thanksgiving in October for two reasons. One is that it is close to three birthdays in my family, lots of pumpkin pies to celebrate birthdays plus family get together for thanksgiving.
Secondly the beginning of October the focus is more about being grateful and not tainted by Christmas.

Great post, Dave. You remind me that gratitude shouldn’t just be celebrated on our Thanksgiving, but everyday. The song lyrics are familiar but I can’t quite place them. I see someone wrote Brown-eyed Girl, which sounds familiar.

Thanks Debra. That was exactly what I hoped was the message. It is Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison. It’s a sunny day here and I hope it remains so for a little while especially down on the coast which needs some weather respite. I appreciate that you comment. ♥ David

Always love a bit of Van the Man Morrison – even though he is a grumpy old so & so in person 😀 Lovely message about gratitude and its importance in this world where we see so much entitlement.

My son told me we are already lucky when we are born because the odds are one in 400 Trillion – makes the lottery look like a gimme. Gratitude helps in many ways, sometimes it takes a breathe and stepping back to engage in its superpower.
