Moving Out!

Do you get a song stuck in your head sometimes? I sure do. I think I had ” Rocket Man” running through my mind for 4 months one year.  The tune by Elton John just touched a chord and then it kept running through my mind, and I would sing it aloud in my cubicle. I call it singing but the people around me called the SPCA they thought I was torturing a cat under my keyboard or something.

When I was in my early 20’s Billy Joel was making hits and I really enjoyed his first album. [that’s what they used to record music on – think of a CD only bigger and made of vinyl] I heard a song being played on one of those reality shows “music or dancing” I don’t which one of them it was and you know those shows are like popcorn anyway, you can’t remember them the next day.

I digress. The song I am stuck listening to and I warn you – DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS YOUTUBE unless you like a song stuck in your head for 72 hours.

 check out the hair!

What is a good name for a guitar?

Some names just kindle certain thoughts; for example if I mentioned the Beatles you might immediately think of Paul McCartney.

Lucille (Kenny Rogers song)

If I mentioned Lucille– you may have thought of Kenny Rogers and the famous song he recorded in 1977. – remember that line? “four hungry children and a crop in the field.” That was the first song of his that I noticed, and then I became a fan.

What is a good name for a guitar? BB King thinks that Lucille is a really good name for all his guitars.

And for the true BB King fans they know that his guitars are all named Lucille. It is an interesting story and I think you will enjoy learning a little BB King trivia for the next time you are on Jeopardy. (smile)

Stand By Me – Marvin Gaye

This weekend in the USA there was a 640 Million dollar lottery. Who knows how many millions of tickets were sold, but the statistics are amazing, and I am sure there were a lot of Canadians who travelled down to buy a ticket. The odds of winning a ticket are preposterously miniscule but so many are willing to pay to grasp at that straw. Now I buy lottery tickets too but I am reminded again today that money is not the key to happiness.

Not a typo! Money is not the key to happiness, and neither is fame, or even success. Today is April 1st and I read today about famous events that occurred on this day. On this day, one day before his 45th birthday – Marvin Gaye died.

The life of Marvin Gaye I knew nothing about until today, but the story may interest you  also. He was in the music and entertainment business 25 years, he made music with biggest names in the music industry, he has been named by Rolling Stones as one of the top ten talents ever! This is a man who was wealthy in all the ways that we might consider successful. He was wealthy from many millions of records sold, he was famous, he was successful in his chosen field with acclaim from his music contemporaries.

When he died, he was hiding out and living with his parents because of the problems in his life including depression and he didn’t die from a drug overdose as maybe you would suspect.  This is the shocking part that made me write. He was killed by his own father, Marvin Gaye Sr, with three shots to the chest from a gun that Marvin had given his father.

Now undoubtedly, some of you will investigate and read more about this tragic story but for me the message was that fame and fortune do not guarantee happiness.  A little fame and a little fortune wouldn’t hurt but I don’t envy the Brad Pitts, or other celebrities.

I counted my fortune this week and it wasn’t in blue chip stock or 6 digit savings accounts. It was all the love and friendship I have been blessed with in my life. I am a grateful and blessed person for certain.  You count your blessings and you may find yourself rich as well; always a healthy exercise. Take care.

Squealing tires and smoke !

My last post ended with a youtube about Penticton – EASY Going, and relaxing.

I am offering the opposite end of the spectrum now. Fasten your seat belt.  Oh yeah!

This video is the OPPOSITEsmoke, squealing tires, drifting through obstacles,  and my personal dream of the perfect commute from work.

It is long,   but very well done, and likely the result of a lot of practice. There are a few more in this series but this is my choice to share.

Hope you enjoy some thrills vicariously; as I did.

Chocolate has Rules !

Each week at the Toastmasters Club I belong to, SITSO Said-So Toastmasters – Club641259, there is one part of the meeting that is when someone shares either a joke or inspirational.

Last week – Anik shared the Rules of Chocolate, and now I will share them with you!

  1. If you get melted chocolate all over your hands, ………………..you’re eating it too slowly.
  2. To get chocolate home from the store in a hot car………………..eat it in the parking lot.
  3. Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices and strawberries all count as fruit; so eat as many as you want.
  4. If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves.
  5. Put “eat chocolate” at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you’ll get one thing done.
  6. Money talks, Chocolate sings!

Oh, and by the way……..

I was looking at a Facebook page for Three Blind Mice Guest Suite and after admiring the view I felt inspired about visiting this place called Penticton.
Looks like a great place to live, raise a family, maybe retire !

What happened to defenseless women?

I love my wife’s coleslaw but I have to be careful which days I ask her to make it for me. – this reminds me! (chuckle)

Here’s the blog today that I share with you and recommend checking out:

Tiny Buddha – Simple Wisdom for Complex Lives This blog post lists 60 things to be grateful for ~ a very nice list.

Times have changed alot. Past decades the male was the main breadwinner, and his wife took care of the home.  This is no longer the norm and now both husband and wife tend to have full-time jobs.

If a husband still thinks he can come home and put his feet up while the wife does everything ~ he is just plain wrong.  I see young households now understand the need to share, and take turns or work out between them a division of household chores.  It works out best that way because women nowadays are not the quiet little mouses of foregone days; nowadays you gotta watch your step!
