An opportunity comes once a Year !

I want to combine a link to another blog to the thoughts I have had recently about birthdays.  THE LINK IS AT THE END.

Birthdays come but once a year, although we do have other occasions we enjoy celebrating during the year.

When we were young, birthdays were a big deal, friends, cake, games and it felt like a celebration.  For example – My wonderful daughter loved to invite all her friends to celebrate when she was young, and so she did.

As we aged, the birthdays seemed to be celebrated less, just a few people, some family – birthdays were even overlooked accidentally.

Then we aged more and birthdays were only celebrated at milestones, turning 19, turning 30, turning 40, 50, 60 etc. But, of course,  that meant mostly birthdays were just another day, albeit with some cards or cake.

After a certain age, we realize birthdays need to be celebrated again, every year because life seems less guaranteed.  In actuality,  there were never guarantees, and we are all a blink away from our last sunrise.

I would suggest every birthday needs to be recognized for what it is – it’s an opportunity to stop and vocalize what that person means to us, what a difference they make to our lives, a favorite memory, a humorous story.

It’s not just that it’s the person’s  birthday, that’s only the occasion, a marker per se of a one day stop in a 365 day cycle – A birthday is an OPPORTUNITY to remind someone they are loved, appreciated and their life is meaningful.

That you care, and I know you really do.

Grab each opportunity you can, I will also.

NOW here I offer you a link to –   Tell Me Now -Ramblings and Ruminations blog.  The poem speaks for itself.

great poem, the message is right on. Never pass up a chance to share feelings and thoughts, there is no guarantee as to time left.

  3. Birthdays have never been a big thing in my life, even when I was a kid (more so than now though) but you make a good point. Great Penticton photo. 🙂
