Libraries are not the same
from when I was a child, and I think you will be pleased with the changes. Technology has arrived, and libraries are still so easy to use, easy to join and benefit from – but one thing that hasn’t changed is that they are still FREE.
Libraries are cool – in fact my son coined the phrase that the library is the original YouTube. It’s true, whenever I wanted to learn something, and my earliest entertainment ; I went to the library.
Nearly every community has one branch or more. Libraries are free to use regardless of gender or status. ✨

A personal question here ……., are you a member of your local library? 🧐🧐 I sure hope you are. Libraries exist for use, and if the public stops using them…..

I love libraries and also use the online options and apps. Sometimes I just go browse in the library for something to do. 🙂

I can so relate. I even visit libraries on vacation and in las Vegas there was a sign on the front door requesting no handguns inside. You don’t see that at many libraries!

That’s cool ! You love libraries also! I remember as a child going to the library every Saturday. There was a Freddy the pig series. Freddy became a detective, joined the circus, flew in a hot air balloon. No more Freddy the Pig, but definitely I enjoy reading, and even wrote a few short stories for my blog.

I use my local library all the time. Because it’s a small branch I seldom have to wait very long even for new releases/bestsellers. I love the online reservation and email notices too, and the fact you can renew online if you need to. I even get DVD movies from the library.

I have a library card, but I rarely read physical books anymore…it’s tough when past and future collide

I have an ebook reader but prefer the physical books, however libraries do offer ebook downloads in addition to physical books. You can support your library by downloading books as well. Go for it!
Library support is funded based on usage, so you can still support your library by downloading books, borrowing dvds or whatever. Libraries also have other resources now, my library has over 200 board games for borrowing, and I hope soon we also have other assets for our patrons like telescopes for borrowing. Our patrons can also use a 3d printer, and teens learn programming at the library.

But conversely…I feel like I need to just support books in general. I always buy a book from a Indy store…books just need to be supported!

I understand, I feel guilty a bit when I use self-serve in the grocery store, so I line up for a cashier. 🙂

I love our town library, went just yesterday for my fiction fix as well as a book on the trash problem in America. Ours also has a maker space and meet-up groups and classes, considering out town only has a population of under 20,000 it is pretty much the place to go.

Our local library is a great supporter of authors and often allow us space to hold panels and readings. Where would we be without them?

I too love libraries, just introduced my 2 year old granddaughter to our local branch. She loved it, keeps asking to go back. In fact had a little meltdown last Sunday evening when I told her we couldn’t go because it was closed.

Libraries are the hub of communities, and I am an advocate for membership and use big time.

I love libraries and recently joined our local Friends of the Library group and I am now their Facebook page admin, creating a page and a social media presence for them. We are a small community with a lot of empty storefronts and not a lot of prospects so the library is an important resource. I’m glad to be involved in this venerable institution. Thanks for promoting libraries Dave.

I also am an advocate for libraries, and enjoyed them my whole life. We would like to have Friends of the Library organization here in Penticton. It is not too surprising to Ilona that you enjoy libraries, thank you for volunteering to help with their facebook page. That is kind of you.
BTW when I was on holiday in January I visited the Maui Friend of the Library and bought two books, nice little store and wonderful volunteer there.

I love my library… Have been a member forever. What i loved most was the trips with my late Dad to the library. I now have my own library and garden but Dad is no longer here.

Ps, i grew up reading Sidney Sheldon and James Hadley Chase, Wilbur Smith too. All the books Dad read. When he noticed his books being read, he introduced me to rhe library and more age appropriate books..
Alas, thats how i figured out about the Easter traditions “birds and the bees”!
