Bend Oregon Wildflowers

Long before we set off for Europe, we needed to drive the RV south before winter set in. After journeying up the atmospheric Oregon coast in the spring and a stop in delightful Portland, what else could the state possibly offer us? From Shakespeare to beer, here are some of the highlights from our second foray through Oregon.

Blogging is like losing weight

keep calmNot that I have lots of experience at losing weight, but I think blogging is like losing weight.

The temptation when you are dieting is to check the weigh scales too often, then you berate yourself because you haven’t lost 5 pounds in the last 24 hours.

A watched pot won’t boil? The same also with losing weight, do the right things, eat according to a plan, keep a record of what you eat (apparently this makes a huge difference to achieving success) and weigh yourself regularly (once a week, not hourly).

So what does weight loss have to do with blogging. I have a confession. I look at my daily stats……daily. I am happy when I have lots of hits in one day, and less so on those days when there are fewer.  Is it a writer thing? I guess people reading, sharing and following my blog is a type of affirmation,  and it gives me a kick.

funny-pictures-cat-is-on-scaleI need to be like the dieter, and enjoy my writing regardless of stats, and comments. I know that many people do enjoy my posts because they tell me to my face, but don’t leave a comment.

Thanks for reading!

You can almost smell the salt in the air, and mornings by the water are heart medicine.

I can’t find the reset button

I can’t find the reset button.  No going back to fix the mistakes I made, I can only apply my experience going forward, and share it with others.  I am sure I would just make different mistakes, so no guarantee I would achieve greater happiness, plus I’m a pretty happy guy already.

Some say that wisdom is learning from your mistakes, that is incorrect. Wisdom is learning from other people’s mistakes. People could learn a lot from me.

I have noticed happiness is not based on income. On a walk Sunday with a friend who visited Brazil, he commented on the happiness of the poor people there. Happiness then doesn’t rely on the car you drive or the square footage of your home. None of these folks had either.

My own experience in Mexico correlated my friend’s comment, the majority of the people we met there were impoverished financially but their contentment was high and their happiness was contagious.

So what is the thought for us from this?  If I won the lottery it would solve a lot of problems, but it likely would create some its own, maybe worse.  Many rich people die early because of abuses and a lifestyle that comes from wealth.

Perspective is possibly the key, as illustrated below.  This hard working man does amazing photos and uses perspective together with his rich imagination and lots of hard work. Click Here to learn more.

Enjoy, and share – thanks for reading.

Live A Life That Matters

People, not careers, not homes, not yards are what count and once again; living without regrets

Clair Marie's avatarBASE girl

Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.

So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.

It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant
Even your gender and skin colour will be irrelevant.
So what will matter?

How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what…

I’d rather have him buy me a Burger…

My wife likes flowers but not as a gift also. She loves a dinner out though, and I think she would agree with your post completely.
