Country Music is Jazzy! and a sideway step to the rocky 70’s !

An acquaintance of mine used to complain to me that country music was all about a guy losing his pickup truck and his horse. He knew zippo about country music obviously.

Country music covers a spectrum of sounds like no other. Whether you like pop rock, bluegrass, folk or jazz you can certain Country Music includes a sound you will like.

I can’t say I know anything about the music scene now, or even ten years ago. I just don’t pay much attention anymore but there are some names in country music even I recognize.

I think one thing about country music that I like is that it often has a sense of humor, and tries in a light-hearted way to relate to real life. Sort of.

The sounds of country are a long way from the Aerosmith, Paul McCartneryBand on the Run, Golden Earring,  many many Elton John songs of my youth (love Crocodile Rock!)

In my younger days I remember singing along with the radio to Radar Love, and Band on the Run and listening to CKLG radio in Vancouver. Those were the days of songs like Barroom Blitz, and (Sparks) This Town ain’t big enough for both of us!

Now look I’m stuck in the 70″s! Queen – One Night at the Opera; Suzi Quatro – Your Moma won’t like me!

Oh I have to get out this 70’s pop loop — let’s enjoy some country jazz with The Tractors. 🙂

Klingon, Ferengi & Borg ~ Oh My!

The sun came out at last, but I enjoyed the rain downpour and the rainbow that followed. It inspired me to head over to “The Bay” and buy some clothes. Sue went and got her some nice clothes last night, and so I grabbed “Big Dave” and sauntered to the Bay to check out the deals.

I was successful! Some new shoes – Clarks no less and a nice Esprit shirt for him. Some dashing shorts, a polo shirt, a dashing plaid shirt for me.  Saved a bit but not nearly as much as if I had just stayed home ~ ah but as my Las Vegas colleague said ” I will be dead a long time” better to enjoy now!

The farmer’s market was busy today, and as Sue had the day off we managed to bolster the economy there also. Some wonderful ingredients, some non-essential items and voila we will be enjoying an Indian feast tonight. Indian fish curry meal, with wine, pappadums, rice and a fresh breeze hinting of tennis possibilities for the morrow.

Yoga Exercise - Corpse Pose (Savasana)

I even got some lavender oil to freshen an eye pillow I have for those times I relax on the floor in Savasana.  I could use more time doing that!

The BC Lions lost again today ~ zero wins, three losses. Edmonton will enjoy watching those highlights tonight. It makes me wonder if the coach is immune since these past years they have certainly lost their lustre, and seem to be only warming up until October.

The night is calliing- this post title is spin off of the famous line by Dorothy when she escapes Kansas. Do you know the real line?

The weekend challenge continues – who knows what the number will be by Monday?

Weatherman – Sunshine, cloudy periods, 40% chance of rain

Canadians love to talk about the weather.  This summer has given us more material than ever. Floods in the prairies, cold wet springs, and where is the climate change and the heat?

In the Okanagan, the weatherman has it easy. Every day predict sunshine with cloudy periods and 40% chance of rain. No matter what  happens he/she can say they were accurate.

July 15, 16 Challenge – Break 2000 !

95 posts since last year when I started this blog. I think I am starting to get the idea. There are some posts which I really believe most folks would enjoy, like;

 the handstands in New York,

Isn’t Love Wonderful with the love story involving Maria,

some songs by Blue Rodeo, and maybe a few others.

My challenge is to have folks drop by and peek around to bring the number of visitors from 1859 to 2000 by Monday.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I know this is a bit of reach for one weekend – it would mean 141 hits on my blog before Monday but why not hope eh?  I have 1859 hits now and would like to see 2000 hits by Monday. Wish me luck !

I thought I would also challenge you to look around and see how many can find two older blog posts.

THE FIRST ONE TO LOCATEs has two links to the country group – Sawyer Brown. The lead singer of this group jumps and dances around and the links are for two of the group songs that I like, namely – Thank God for you, and Some Girls do.  Enjoy those songs!

ANOTHER BLOG I CHALLENGE YOU TO FIND is one where I talk about how men and women interact so differently. You know you have the right post if you see a picture of John Wayne in his Rooster Cogburn persona.

Only two words

This post started in grade 12. I went to Burnaby North High School.  Sitting around talking with my closest friends; we challenged each other to find only two words to describe each other.

In this “game” the objective was to summarize how you saw that person.  We took our time and I remember I thought the words insightful, and I think the others did. It was quite a challenge but as you search for just the right words, you realize you have to boil down your word pictures to how you see that person’s strongest characteristic in your friendship with them.

What two words would you like to summarize you?  Are you thinking perhaps “loyal”, “considerate”,  “supportive”, “generous”.  What if acquaintances described you as “selfish”, “aloof” or “predictable”, or possibly “stingy”?

Of course, we cannot help all the impressions we create for ourselves, especially when they are brief, or while we are in our work “persona”.  But if your friends gathered together tomorrow to share two words to remember your life what words would you want to hear? (assuming you like Tom Sawyer could lurk at that event overhearing the comments)

In golf as in life it is the follow through that makes the difference.

Not Kokomo but still sunshine and sand.

Growing up I used to borrow my Dad’s record of Homer & Jethro at the Country Club. This song was one that I always enjoyed.

Homer & Jethro were humorous and I am sure they were especially so in a live setting, and I love their version of 16 tons. You may want to investigate that on your own.

But I digress.  So many songs from this era ~ Beach Boys! Did they do any songs that weren’t fabulous?

This was the age of Walter Kronkite on the CBS news, and you have to wonder if this song was written and sung for all the girls who had boyfriends in Vietnam.

When you watch the video, you look at the clothes and the styles. It was a neat time, and life seemed simpler in those years, more free, more optimistic, and much cheaper gas prices!

The Monkees, the Beach Boys, the surfing songs, I was growing up and I remember those years with rose tinted glasses.
