Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home
Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don’t know what to do
The memory of love will see you through – Perhaps Love (John Denver)
I know I blog annually to share my anniversary and it’s that time again. Susan and I were married in Kamloops March 8, 1980.
When we picked the date I had no idea it would turn out to be International Women’s Day (IWD) on our anniversary annually.
Everyone always highlights that it is IWD but it is also Proofreading day, Dry Shampoo day, and Check your batteries day.
It could have been worse for example it could have been Absurdity Day (November 20) or Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19).
It could have been better also, like High Five Day (April 16th)
After 40 years together we enjoy all our days together.
We celebrate being together in small ways now. We don’t want cards, we want to share experiences, even small ones like a walk on a windy day, quiet time, movie night, coffee date, a pedicure together, always and always we are grateful to be alive and for our family and friends.
Every day for me I can look in her eyes, and it makes me happy she is with me, and I know she feels the same. I guess it must be love, nah, I know, it’s Definitely Love.

Nice post. Congratulations. 40 years is quite a milestone. One question: what would be so bad about being married on Talk Like a Pirate Day?! Think of the great vows you could have had!! 😉

Dear Dave and Susan, Congrats on the big 40. Keep it rolling for a great many more.
I enjoyed the poetry/lyrics by John Denver, he had a special way with words, as did Paul Stookey, who wrote this masterpiece as a wedding gift for his musical partner.
Hugs from us K and J.

Wishing you and your lovely wife a Very Happy 40th Anniversary!! We also married in 1980, Jan. 19th, so also just celebrated our 40 years married. So grateful for each day as we grow older together. So much to rejoice about, especially our 3 wonderful sons, their exceptional wives and our 5 sweet and beautiful grandchildren. We are blessed indeed, as are you. I appreciate that you are sharing with us your journey and also expressing appreciation and thankfulness for the gift of your life. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations, Dave… to you and your beautiful bride. I love the John Denver/Placido Domingo song you chose. One of my favorites.I think I actually did a post about it once. Forty years is a block of an eye, isn’t it. My wife and I will be married forty-seven years this June so I understand how quickly it all goes and how much love is shared during those years. You express it beautifully. Many, many more!

I meant to add a comment on your post about Chapala in Mexico. I looked it up on maps as I thought it was on the east coast. I see now how far south it is. Looks like a really nice area. I have friends in Mexico City and it would be nice to see them but I would rather to a less populated area. How did you happen to find Chapala?

I was visiting Ajijic actually and went to Chapala while I was there. They are close together.

I have your posts about Mexico, they seem off the tourist track and that is excellent because you probably experience the true Mexico.

“Perhaps Love” is one of the few John Denver songs I don’t care for,, but love is absolutely everything. It’s all I’ve ever really wanted.
Congratulations to you and your beautiful lady on forty years together. Don’t stop now.
